Last Day on the Playa

Shaun and Lena caught a couple more waves  while… 

…while Van and I watched some baby turtles hatch! 

Their eggs look just like ping pong balls!

We learned that 2-4 turtle mamas visit that beach every night.  Each turtle can lay up to 100 eggs in her sandy nest.  Employees of Paso Pacifico, an NGO, monitors 1/3 of the beach every night in order to dig up the eggs and protect them in their hatchery.  The rest of the beach is unprotected.
